Both the Democrats and Republicans in Congress need to get over themselves. Shutting down the federal government to prove a point over whether this minuscule percentage of the budget should or should not be cut is not responsible. Do they really think that Americans would rather have party leaders stand their ground than get their Social Security checks, Medicare benefits, pay our soldiers and public sector workers? The scope of the deficit is astounding, but this grandstanding over a tiny portion of the budget - which cutting will come nowhere close to balancing the budget, and retaining will not help the average American out of the financial crisis - is ridiculous. 

Oh, and Mr. President: Stop pretending as if you are just the ref on the sidelines watching both sides pummel each other without a vested interest. Get in there and solve this thing, even if you end up cutting more than you would have otherwise wanted. It’s the right thing to do.
